Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word commitment as follows: “a promise to do or give something; a promise to be loyal to someone or something; the attitude of someone who works very hard to do or support something.” Commitment is about giving your word. It is about your integrity. It is about trust. It is about following through with your promise regardless of the difficulty, time factor, or cost. It is about loyalty, perhaps to another, but primarily to yourself.

I work with people on a regular basis in my Reiki practice. There are clients who are very committed to the work they do with me and the Reiki energy. They are people who understand the importance of growing as an individual to become wiser and more capable of living in the world peacefully and with joy.

These are people who are committed to understanding who they are and what their purpose is on this planet. They are willing to look at themselves honestly and change what they don’t like. They are willing to take on the challenges that present themselves because they know they are moving to a better place and it is worth some difficulty and pain to get where they want to be. It is not easy, but they work at it anyway.

Too often, I work with people who want to feel better, but do not want to commit to the work involved to make that happen. I may see them once or twice. They are used to expecting a quick fix, something that is prevalent in our society. The message is “I want it and I want it now. I want it, but I don’t want to change my life. I want it, but I don’t want to feel discomfort.” And I must say to that person, “Change is hard, but it’s worth it. If you work on changing in conjunction with Reiki energy, profound things may happen in your life. But it all entails a lot of work.”

So as you live your life, consider what is occurring. Are you consistently happy? Or are you dissatisfied with major portions? Or are some parts good and others not so good? Can you live with what you have, or are you unhappy in some way, but don’t know what to do about it? If you are repeating the same unhappy patterns over and over, perhaps it is time to look at alternatives. If you are really serious about changing, you will need to be committed because it’s all on your shoulders. No one else is keeping you from improving your life except you. There are thousands of excuses why you don’t, can’t, don’t want to, change, but none of them are valid. When you are committed to change, you will change over time. It’s not a quick fix, and no one will wave a magic wand. By your own committed work on yourself, you’ll become a stronger, wiser, happier, more peaceful, more joyful person.

Reiki energy can help you shift your life. It is often subtle, but can be profound. I have heard many people say how Reiki helped them through difficult times and changed their life. Whether you use Reiki to help you work through a situation or not, commitment is very important for success. Take a good look at how committed you are to living the best life you possibly can live.
