We all need a little help now and then. Particularly when we think we have life figured out and end up with something entirely different. Do we resist the new direction of our personal story, or do we take it to heart and change course? Right now in our world, much of what we thought was set in stone is changing. For many, we’re not sure where it all will lead.
Institutions
We have a constitution which most of us thought would guide us through hard times. But much of what we are experiencing now is new territory. The branches of our government, which were supposed to act as checks and balances, are increasingly more partisan. The bipartisanship that worked for the good of each citizen in the past continues to erode.
Each political party has a philosophy and agenda it is trying to achieve. This has come at a cost for ordinary citizens, whose will is being increasingly ignored. This is true of the Presidency, and the Congress, which is also working to fill the courts with partisan judges.
Economically, the rich are getting richer, and everyone else is losing ground. The saying, “money talks”, is very true. Those with money are using it to influence legislators on all levels to back ideas they want to put forward. This is true of individuals, groups, and corporations. All have agendas which serve them, but do not necessarily serve the average person. Financial gain is the bottom line of the food industries, pharmaceuticals, banks and lending institutions, foundations, and energy industries.
Where Do We Start?
We are all experiencing the turmoil around us. It is becoming increasingly obvious that change is necessary. Compromise is a state that barely exists these days, indicating the precariousness of our world. If we cannot or will not compromise, the life we have known will disappear. It is possible another form of government and/or economy may evolve from our present situation. What will that be? Will the existing structures have to crumble so new ones can take their place? If that is so, let us hope we can learn some lessons that come out of this changing time. Perhaps a willingness to put aside differences in philosophy will allow success for the greater and individual good.
So, let us begin by becoming less materialistic and competitive. Let us return to a life of virtue and integrity, which means valuing trustworthiness, dependability, truthfulness and strength of character. It starts with each of us, staying in integrity, adhering to a moral compass, and rejecting the usurping of our personal power by another. In our heart of hearts, we know what is right. Even when it is difficult to walk a path alone or with only a few, we are called to do so. We do it for ourselves as well as our fellow humans and this beautiful planet that sustains us.
Help Yourself
Do you understand your purpose on earth at this time? Many people are searching because their lives seem empty and meaningless. They may feel they have no direction, or may be overwhelmed or fearful. They are not sure what to trust because they are looking outside themselves. However, turning inward and trusting in your intuition, your Spirit Self, is a good place to begin to help yourself. Your intuition is your connection to the Creator of all that is. This connection can sustain you. As an individual with unique talents and needs, you deserve to have your needs met, as does every other person on this planet. This is not equality, but it is fairness, and harmony will be the result.
