Here it is, April. So many new beginnings are finally arriving. New flowers and milder temperatures make us feel more alive. Go on, take a deep breath and let it out. Time for “spring cleaning”, as my mom always said. “Get the cobwebs out! Air out the house!”

This is a wonderful time for each of us to do a little spring cleaning, just for ourselves. Go for a walk, get some fresh air. You’ll feel better, look better, and act better! Clean up your yard. Plant a garden and enjoy the process, as well as the bounties, be they flowers or veggies. Let go of old habits and thoughts which are not serving you anymore. Take that deep breath and release it. “Lighten up” as they say. When we release nonproductive energies, we actually feel lighter!

I know it’s fine to say let those thoughts or habits go, but not always easy. We need to take time to consider what we don’t want to keep. It’s a conscious process that also takes some effort. After all, if we’re honest, we’re looking within ourselves where there are lots of things we like, but many things we’d rather not acknowledge. Like… hot tempers, jealousy, fear, anxiety, boredom, low self-esteem, hatred, intolerance, and the list goes on. They are easier to ignore than to confront.

So, if you are interested in lightening up, choose something important for you to work on. Choose something you really want to change. For example, if you get angry often, start asking yourself why. What is it that pushes your buttons? Are you running your life on “shoulds”? Are those “shoulds” still valid, or is it time to reconsider? Lots of “shoulds” come from our childhood and have no place in our adult lives. When a “should” comes up that pushes your button, think to yourself  “How important will this situation be two hours, two days, two weeks, or two years later? Is it worth the anger? Is it serving me a good purpose? Do I want this anger to be part of my journey through life? Or is it something I want to change?”

Change is often hard, but the author, Marianne Williamson feels it is a gift that we give ourselves. What is the purpose of life, but to grow in the many ways life offers. We change physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually throughout our lives. When change is resisted, we stop growing. If your life feels stuck, it’s time for some spring cleaning. Get rid of the old. Give yourself a gift~ begin anew.

What does any of this have to do with Reiki? Quite a bit. Reiki is positive life force energy from the universe. It is available for anyone who wishes to use it to help their lives grow positively. It is like grace from God, giving you the will, the means, the ability to come to the proper balance in your life. When your life is blocked in some way, Reiki can help you find an answer. As we all know, sometimes change is desired, but difficult to attain. Let Reiki be a partner in change for you.
