In my work as an energy healer, I find more and more people are asking the question, “What is my purpose in life?” It is one of the most profound questions you can ask yourself. It includes finding the answer to the question, “Who am I?” Ultimately, the answers have nothing to do with what occurs external to you. As is true of so much, it’s an inside job, an internal dialogue with self, that takes a great deal of thought and contemplation. Ultimately, the answers you receive evolve with experience and maturity.
Where Do I Start?
When a person begins the quest to find purpose in life, he or she often looks for guidance from others to answer the big questions. How can I help make the world a better place? What can I do that is meaningful? Is it possible to make an impact in the world for the greatest good? Should I focus on a specific cause?
Most people take their cues from external sources regarding how to behave and what’s important. It starts at the beginning of life, where influences come from the family, then friends and communities, and finally, the greater society. Each works in one way or another to convince you to conform to what they think is important. When you’re young and don’t know any better, you acquiesce. You desire acceptance and so try to please. You don’t even realize everyone is looking out for themselves and want you to fit into their scheme of reality. As you mature, other people’s agendas become more noticeable to you. This is the point where a choice becomes apparent. Do you live your life as others want, or do you live it as you desire?
How Do I Progress?
The longer you live, the more you experience, both good and bad. Each experience contributes to who you are and how you look at life. If your primary emphasis is on the external parts of your life, over time, they may begin to feel empty, or less meaningful. You begin to question the purpose of all these things in your life.
On a deeper level, you may ask, ‘Is that all there is?’ ‘What’s the point of my life?’ ‘Is it best to live a simple, or complicated life?’ Or ‘Should I be selfish, or selfless?’ The picture of your life becomes more focused as you ask these questions. Finding answers helps you understand your uniqueness, with gifts and abilities that can be used in a variety of ways. Perhaps then more questions come up. ‘Which road do I follow?’ ‘Who do I want to benefit?’ ‘What is most important?’ When you are ready to explore the answers to these questions, you are ready to begin a serious journey of self-discovery.
My Purpose In Life
True purpose comes from knowing who you are. It’s about taking responsibility for yourself, as well as accepting yourself with all your strengths and weaknesses. You can work to improve both, and as you do, a better idea of what’s important and how you want to be in the world takes shape. You begin to see the broader picture of what you can and want to accomplish. A good motto would be, ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff.’ It’s about loving yourself because you are a good person who deserves to be happy and you believe everyone has that right, too. You are respectful, non-judgmental, and accepting. Purpose drives your life.
Conclusion
Life purpose can be almost anything that contributes positively to the world in general. Your life purpose could be loving yourself, and extending that love to everyone and everything outside you. It could be feeding the hungry as an extension of that love, or respecting and accepting anyone and everyone for who they are. There are infinite possibilities. Some will be very specific, serving a few, and others can be very broad, encompassing such things as world peace, or climate change. One person’s life purpose is not better than another’s. Each contributes to the happiness and satisfaction of the individual. Finding your life purpose adds meaning to your life and raises the vibration of the planet. Best wishes in finding yours. Adonai.
